Gonzales was a full-time starter as a freshman in 2025 for the Yellowjackets and now in his sophomore season, is a name who kept being floated to me by coaches and other players as a must-see. Finally, getting my first opportunity to see the sophomore SS from Oxnard, I can confidently say that I’m in on his future profile as a next-level player. He may not pass the eye test with his physicality being more compact and wiry in build, but there is a twitch in his actions and bounce in his step that translates into real ability in how he defends at SS and swings the bat in the RH batter’s box. Gonzales has a loose whippy swing with quickness in his hands and flatter barrel path that will work the middle of the diamond with authority at a high level as he did on this day just missing a 88 MPH FB in his first at bat for a fly out into RCF before then driving in a run on a rocket one hopper at the SS and then was robbed of a hit on line drive headed for LF before the Spartans SS made a spectacular leaping catch going towards his backhand side to steal the hit. Gonzales can run at a high level, showing burst and athleticism when he turns it on, getting down the line, and can see even more in his future as his wiry frame fills out to add strength. While there is more projection to his future game than some of the other younger standouts in the 2028 class, Gonzales's tools, baseball ability, and athleticism for Gonzales will make him a name to keep eyes on going forward.
