The lean 6-foot-4 right-hander got the start for Maranatha and cruised through 4.0 innings, showing a clean mix and plenty of swing-and-miss stuff throughout. He opened 87-88 with the fastball and held that velocity basically the entire outing, pairing it with an 80-82 splitter that generated uncomfortable swings and a sharp 70-72 curveball with real finish. Derosier punched out 9 against 3 walks, controlling the game for most of the outing and limiting hard contact almost entirely. The lone hit allowed was a fisted liner that floated over the second baseman’s head for a single; otherwise, there was little to no damage against him. He also did a nice job getting ahead early, landing first-pitch strikes to 9 of the 15 hitters he faced. He helped himself offensively as well, going 2-for-3 at the plate with a backside single and later just missing a home run to CF, settling for a double to the deepest part of the yard instead. On top of that, his lone out came on another long fly ball, this one to RF that was caught at the wall. Through 4 games and 13 plate appearances this spring, he’s currently hitting .500, adding to an already impressive all-around look.
