Second look at Hayes and he continued to display his impressive next level tools that goes along with his plus athleticism. Hayes finished with 2 hits on the day driving both hits through the infield. Hayes has a simple compact swing with a quiet lower half that explodes when he gets into his rotation. He is comfortable at the box as he lets pitches get deep and has a repeatable load keeping his hands up high, allowing him to be ready pitch by pitch. His fluid upper half and ability to attack the inner half of the baseball plays consistently in his swing. He stays upright when swinging with a direct bat path towards the baseball. He is a player that consistently creates lift with his swing and possesses barrel control, hitting pitches where they are located. Hayes is a dynamic athlete with his ability to run w/ smooth mechanics at SS. His defense can stick at SS at the next level thanks to making tough plays look routine with a strong arm. His offensive profile remains both high contact w/ pull side power w/ ability to get on base with his good approach. On the season, Hayes is batting with a .400 AVG and .480 OBP through 20 GP.

Hayes only had one hit on the day, but it sure left a mark on the left-center wall. With a runner on first in the fifth inning, Hayes barreled a fastball up that first looked like it might have enough to get out. Unfortunately for Hayes, the wind had other plans and the ball died and wound up hitting off the wall. With everyone in the park initially thinking it would be two more insurance runs for Bishop O’Dowd, including the runner who started on first, Hayes was held to a long single and advanced to second on the throw to third base. At the plate, Hayes exhibits fast hands, good separation, and a compact swing. Defensively, Hayes has polished footwork, good range, decent arm, and a quick release at shortstop. He profiles as an above-average defensive second baseman at the next level, with the ability to stick at shortstop.

Body: 6-0, 153-pounds. Lean body type, lithe build with athletic proportions.
Hit: RHH. Deep in box, feet shoulder width apart, slightly open with hands starting head high, smooth quiet knee lift out to short stride, lowers hands into a medium depth load. Quiet swing, easy stroke that is non-forced, as strength comes there will be plenty of power that develops, creates some loft carry without much effort, has body control and showed flashes of bat control to pitches in different zones.
