Leadoff man Vince Menard set the tone from the top of the lineup for Corona Del Mar, putting together an impressive offensive performance that showcased both his hitting tools and approach. Menard was a spark plug all game long, recording three runs scored while consistently hitting the ball hard and finding ways to get on base. Whether it was through barreling up pitches or grinding out competitive at-bats, he showed why he's a valuable piece at the top of the order. At the plate, Menard shows confidence and has a clear presence in the box, staying composed and controlling the tempo of his at-bats. In one of his loudest moments of the day, he smoked a line-drive single up the middle, jumping on a pitch and squaring it up with ease. That ability to drive the ball hard the other way speaks to his advanced approach and mature plate discipline, staying inside the baseball and letting his barrel work through the zone. Menard’s swing is efficient and repeatable, he keeps it simple, eliminates excess movement, and lets his elite bat speed and hand-eye coordination do the work. Menard continues to show he’s a high-motor offensive player with table-setting ability, and with his knack for hard contact and disciplined plate presence, he profiles well as a top-of-the-order bat at the next level. His consistent ability to impact the baseball and set the tone early makes him a name to keep close tabs on as the spring season progresses. With this being my second time seeing him, he just continues to put the barrel to the ball.
