Cathedral Catholic vs. Grossmont

Jose Partida, LHP/1B, Cathedral Catholic, 2027

This was my first look at Jose Partida this year following his transfer sit-out period, and the ‘27 southpaw delivered a strong debut performance. He threw 5 innings against Grossmont, allowing 2 runs and striking out 5 in a solid first outing to kick off his 2025 season. While he didn’t record a plate appearance, Partida was efficient on the mound and kept Cathedral Catholic within reach of a comeback win. What stood out most was his command of the changeup, which consistently disrupted hitters’ timing, and paired well with a CB/SL mix that induced some whiffs. His off-speed feel is advanced for a sophomore, and he wasn’t afraid to challenge hitters early, pounding the zone with a fastball that topped at 88 mph. Grossmont capitalized early in the first inning, but Partida showed maturity by settling in from innings two through four and keeping damage limited. As a two-way lefty with both mound presence and polish, Partida looks poised to build off this outing, not just on the hill, but with the bat as well.
