After having a chance to see him at the NorCal Preseason All State, this was the first time I got a look at Vasell in game action, where his strong tools were on display. Vasell had two hits and reached base three times on the day, starting with a first inning double down on a hard-hit liner down the right-field line. Vasell’s second trip to the plate was nearly identical, this time smoking another liner over the first baseman’s head for a single. With runners on first and second in his third at-bat, he again barreled up another ball towards right field, just missing it and getting caught in right-center just before the warning track. With College Park down three runs in the bottom of the seventh, Vasell led off the inning with a seven-pitch walk, showing a selective eye at the plate. He would later come around to score on a double. What stood out to me the most was Vasell’s bat speed. Vasell has very quick hands, allowing him to get out in front of every batted ball on the day and barrel them. Defensively, Vasell demonstrated good footwork and range at SS, despite being charged with an error on an in-between hop in the 4th. With a solid arm, he has the tools to stick at SS at the next level.
Tino by far had one of the best workouts of the day, a very talented 25' SS out of College Park High School. I noticed in the INF workout how quiet his footwork is and how hes not afraid to go and get the ball, showing athleticism. Transfers were smooth and followed with a strong arm. Tino hit the farthest ball of the day at 388 FT, max hand speed was 23.5 MPH and a max bat speed of 74.4 MPH. Tino continued to hit the ball hard (90% hard hit). The hands are fast and direct to the baseball, hes going to be an elite hitter at next level. I can't wait to watch Tino in the spring and see him dominate on the dirt and at the plate.

California State Games - As a left-hand hitting middle infielder, Vasell gets a leg up on many players, simply because the game values left-handed hitters more. What the game values more than left-handed hitters, is GOOD hitters, no matter the side of the plate they hit on. Vasell has displayed high level barrel control and bat to ball skills. He's a gritty competitor and we've seen him grind pitchers before eventually getting a mistake and flipping a hit into the middle of the field. The other raw tools (good arm, up to 85) aren't eye-popping, but the best tool to have, is the ability to hit. He can.
