Thornbury entered the game with 1 out in the 5th inning and I immediately noticed how athletic he looked in the uniform while also being filled out with good proportions. I’ve seen video but he looked bigger in person with this being my first look at him. He had loose and easy mechanics on the bump and the ball came out of his hand freely. He sat 87-90 mph with a FB that on some pitches, flashed natural run and got in on the hands of RHHs. He attacked primarily with the heater as the RB lineup was a tick late with it for most of his outing. He sprinkled in a few sliders at 75 mph but in his 2.2 innings out of the pen, it was his FB providing much of the success. He racked up 3 strikeouts in the game and had multiple swings and misses at all four quadrants of the zone. Thornbury has a short arm action and his release point is right behind the ear. His stride is also fairly short and he finishes in front of his lead leg when coming downhill. Thornbury allowed one run in his eight out save but was nearly unhittable in the 5th and 6th inning. On the year, in 22.2 innings, Thornbury has a 2-0 record with a 3.09 ERA and 21 strikeouts.
