Nelson continues what has been a dominant start to his SR. campaign on the mound for the Cougars. The righthander has seen a jump in velocity this year now regularly hitting the 90-91 MPH mark and has touched 92 while pitching heavily at the 87-89 MPH on a FB that features heavy running life in the movement pattern. In addition to his velocity jump has come the change to throw a pair of high quality breaking balls with different shapes. His CB features a sharper vertical break in the 76-78 MPH range that he can get whiff/chase on and then the righthander mixes a tight breaking SLD at 79-81 MPH that features horizontal break that he will throw to both RH hitters and LH hitters. Nelson has shown solid present control as evidenced by a low walk rate while being able to rack up strikeouts, currently has 45 Ks in 30 IP with just seven walks while posting an eye popping .93 ERA with just 19 hits allowed. The starter potential for Wylan is looking stronger as a University of San Diego commit, his ability to spin two breaking balls on top of a quality FB and if he can add a CHG in the future the ceiling for his future is intriguing.

Solidly built righthander who shows strength in his lower ½ and has gotten his upper body in better shape which has seen increases in his FB velocity which sat at 88-91 MPH throughout his five innings of work while touching 92 MPH on several occasions. He showed a new shape to his breaking ball adding more vertical depth to its shape going from a SLD into more of CB which sat at 76-80 MPH flashing swing/miss life when executed correctly. As well, he showed a newly developed 82-84 MPH cutter with action to the arm side. Punched out eight hitters over five innings with just one mistake on a hung CB that was touched for HR. Shows realistic long term Starter profile as University of San Diego commit.
