McGinnis is a solidly built 5-foot-11, 180-pound catcher who was the best overall receiver at the Class of 2013 Prospect Showcase. During bullpens, McGinnis showed advanced glovework and received with soft hands and a firm wrist. He also displayed solid arm strength (75 mph from the crouch), with consistent 2.19-2.20 pop times. With a few mechanical adjustments, McGinnis has the skill to be a consistent 1.9-2.0 guy. Offensively, he has an aggressive approach and showed pull-side power potential.
