INF Angelo Vitale (Ridgewood, 2027) is a left-handed hitting middle-infielder to watch entering the spring. Presenting a lean, 5-foot-10, 175-pound frame, he showed a loose/easy flat path through the zone, while generating jump off the barrel (T97.2 mph EV), and utilizing a line drive approach to the middle of the field. Vitale also showed athletic actions on the infield, paired with a reliable glove that should allow him to stick up the middle at the next level.
Positional Profile: SS/2B
Body: 5-10, 175 pounds. Athletic, high-waisted frame with projection.
Hit: LHH. Tall, narrow setup, open base, some pre-pitch rhythm, two-tap stride. Loose, athletic hands through the zone, bat speed, easy, flat path, hitterish, generates jump off the barrel, line drive approach to the middle of the field. 74.8 mph bat speed with 22g of rotational acceleration. Power: 97 mph max exit velocity (86.5 avg.); 341-foot max batted distance.
Arm: RH. INF - 82 mph. High 3/4 slot, clean, athletic arm action.
Defense: Athletic actions, moves well to either side, reliable two hand gather, comfortable making plays on the move.
Athletic Testing: 7.16 runner in the 60-yard dash.
Vitale showed a contact-based approach Thursday that played up out of the leadoff spot, producing QAB after QAB for his Windy City squad. Vitale is athletic and uses it accordingly from the left side of the plate with loose hands and a slightly open stance. The shortstop didn't try to do too much and offered a good profile at the top of the lineup, with solid defensive actions at the six.
Vitale continued to show well on both sides of the ball Friday. The tablesetter for the Windy City lineup went a perfect 3-for-3 out of the leadoff spot with a double and a couple stolen bases. Vitale also showed to be a reliable defender at short with soft hands, and an accurate arm to pair.
