Boykin finished the week 9-for-15 with seven runs, five RBI, and five stolen bases during a spring break trip to Memphis.
Of all the advanced shortstops in attendance, Boykin was towards the top with his advanced athleticism, footspeed, actions and arm. Boykin, foot-9, 161-pounds, ran one of the top 60 of the day, a 6.69. He then proceeded to play with all kinds of pace and body control on the infield, looking extremely natural on the move with quality glove presentation and quick release. The arm played at 82 mph across with accuracy and ability to throw from multiple platforms. Has a chance to be one of the top defensive middle infielders in the state. At the plate, he has a simple, barrel controlled right-handed swing with some natural lift up the middle of the field. Strong showing from the highly-athletic 2029.
MIF Chase Boykin (Marian Catholic, 2029) is a toolsy and athletic prospect to follow throughout the high school ranks. He’s an above-average runner with a 6.84 in the 60, and he has a longer, athletic right-handed swing to pair with a line-drive approach. On the infield he shows present footspeed and athleticism through the baseball with quick hands, moving well into his throws while staying in his legs. Speed plays up on the infield with easy range and an explosive first step.
