LHP Dante Gianino (Gibault Catholic (IL), 2028) emerged from Sunday’s event as a must-see arm in the Illinois sophomore class. Gianino stands in an athletic, high-waisted 6-foot-2, 180-pound frame with more projection still to come. His delivery features easy actions and minimal effort down the mound, paired with a loose arm from a ¾ slot from the left side. Gianino’s ability to control a true three-pitch mix stood out during his bullpen, showing an advanced feel for the zone for his age. His fastball sat in the low-80s, topping at 85.6 mph, while mixing in a developing 72-74 mph slider and a mid-70s changeup that averaged -17 inches of horizontal movement.
