RHP, Justice Hernandez, New Trier, 2027 Uncommitted, currently ranked No. 25 in Illinois. Lean, highly projectable 5-foot-10, 152-pound frame. Came out of the ‘pen and was lights out for the Trevians, firing two scoreless frames with just one hit allowed, walking one and striking out two. The right-hander has an intentful drop/drive delivery, working with clear intent while challenging hitters in the zone with a 84-87 mph fastball. He also flashed a low-70s curveball and a developing splitter in the mid-70s. Confident with some moxy on the mound.

RHP Justice Hernandez (New Trier, 2027) is a name that has become very familiar with our staff after breaking onto the scene for us last summer. An earlier standout this winter, Hernandez continues to show well with each look, and this event was no different. He is a dynamic mover down the mound at 5-foot-9, 152-pounds, throwing everything with intent. His fastball sat 84-85 mph with carry (avg. 16.9” IVB, T21.9”), for strikes 67% of the time. Hernandez showed to have control (60% strikes) of the slider at 70-72 mph, which played with more of a vertical shape. He also flashed a splitter at 71-75 mph with hard downer action (avg. 3.6” IVB) and slight cut.

+ RHP/OF Justice Hernandez (New Trier, 2027) provided an ultra-intriguing look on both sides of the ball, currently ranked No. 25 in the state, the wiry 5-foot-11, 154-pound right-hander has an incredibly high ceiling, especially on the mound. He has some twitch in his operation, working with some intent and a powerful delivery down the mound to create a fastball in the 86-87 mph range. His slider continues to get better in each look, now playing at 73-75 mph with over 2,300 RPM. The splitter is still developing, but sat around 73-75 mph. At the plate, the right-handed hitter has an athletic swing to dream on with looseness throughout, and he also looks to be an athletic defender in the outfield with long strides and his aforementioned strong arm (T91 mph OF).

After showing well at the Rock Summer Championships 15U and claiming a title at Grand Park during the Grand Park Summer Championships, Hernandez showed well again - this time at the PBT Wisconsin Open. After the previous looks at the electric right-hander, Hernandez’s stuff was on par with what was expected from him. After mounting a comeback against the squad they would eventually claim the weekend’s championship against, Hernandez’s relief appearance on Friday was dominant as he closed the door to secure a 6-5 victory. Over that one inning, Hernandez ran his fastball up to 84 mph and showed his wipeout slider, recording a strikeout in the process. Without allowing a hit, Hernandez’s first showing helped put CRB into the bracket games on Sunday. In his second appearance against MBA, Hernandez was dominant as he recorded six K’s over six innings of work. The wiry, 5-foot-10 RHP allowed two runs on just three hits which culminated in an 18-2 victory to win the tournament. The look from New Trier’s ‘27 graduate keeps him as a high-follow in Illinois as the summer circuit continues on.

Hernandez produced one of the most intriguing looks of the weekend on Thursday night in his start for CRB 2027. Listed at 5-foot-11, 140 pounds, the right-handed arm has plenty of room to fill in over the coming years and showed a wiry frame that contained athleticism. Hernandez filled the nightcap with fastballs in the mid-80s, a couple of which reached 86 mph. With his fastball sitting 82-85 mph, Hernandez complimented the advanced pitch with a tight curveball at 67-70 mph that moved across the zone and landed for outs. With the strong performance, Hernandez becomes a name-to-watch throughout the summer and into his next few high school seasons.
