True Sophomore. Formerly ranked No. 86 in Illinois’ 2021 class and flying a bit under the radar, the 6-foot-2, 215-pound right-hander showed above-average arm strength, working his fastball up to 92.7 mph and sitting 91-92 mph throughout his ‘pen. Slider backed up on him at times, but flashed a sharp biter at 79-81 mph. He also showed a cutter with shorter 10/4 action than the slider at 81-84 mph. Struggled to command the changeup but flashed sinking action, 78-80 mph.
Heartland Scout Day: Strong bodied right-hander with wrist-cup arm action to a high three-quarter release. Showed plus feel for a sinking changeup at 76-77 mph with spin in the 1400-1600 rpms. Mixed in a late action curveball at 75-77 mph at 2300 rpm and a lower spin fastball (1900s) in the 89-91 mph range.
Uncommitted arm that’s certain to rise up the Illinois’ 2021 rankings. Wide-shouldered upper half with strength in the lower half. Started against STARTERS on Saturday night. Arm path is long in the back, over-the-top slot. Made a big jump in velocity since our last look. Sat 86-88 mph, and was up to 90 mph, while mixing in a fading, sinking changeup at 75-78 that helped him dodge barrels and earn chases. He struck out six in 4.2 innings and did not allow an earned run.
