LHP Maximos Bariball (Plainfield North, 2025) has shown well in-game in front of our staff in the past, and gave a similarly intriguing look on Sunday as well. The southpaw worked exclusively out of the stretch with fluid movement patterns into an efficient, quick arm from a low ¾ release. He impressed with a fastball up to 84 mph, cruising right around 83 mph throughout his ‘pen with arm-side life and jump out of the hand. His slider played with sweeping action at 68-72 mph, locating around the zone with confidence. He displayed developing feel for his changeup at 69-71 mph, but the offering has quality arm-side life and run.
Positional Profile: LHP/OF
Body: 5-10, 160-pounds. Compact, lean frame.
Delivery: Stretch-only; smooth mover, works even down mound. Fluid overall.
Arm Action: LH. Efficient, quick arm; loose from a low 3/4 window.
FB: T84, 83-84 mph. Some jump from the hand; arm-side life. T2247, 2174 average rpm.
SL: 68-72 mph. Sweeper type; feel with above-average action, locates. Some deceleration but projects. T2257, 2233 average rpm.
CH: 69-71 mph. Inconsistent feel but flashed quality arm-side fade/run action. T1891, 1805 average rpm.
LHP Maximos Barriball (Plainfield North, 2025) showed a quick, athletic arm that sat in the low 80-s with more velocity to come. The ball jumps out of his hand and flashes finish through the zone. Command was scattered at times in this look but he has an projectable arm action and is a candidate to make a velocity jump sometime soon.
Barriball showed a sizable jump in velocity (seven mph) since we last saw him in August, 2022. A southpaw, he increased velocity and ran his FB up to 84 mph on Friday and turned in a quality performance in the process. Showed ability to use offspeeds to strike out batters as he punched out eight over five innings of work. Allowing just three hits and no earned runs, his jump makes him a LHP to follow in the 2025 Illinois class.
Positional Profile: LHP/OF
Body: 5-8, 130-pounds.
Delivery: Medium point of balance, pre-bend in the back knee, maintains knee-bend throughout stride, stride works in-line with a closed landing foot.
Arm Action: LH. Long/loose arm swing into a 3/4 slot.
FB: T76.7, 74-77 mph. Sinking action, kept towards the bottom of the zone. T2201, 2132 average rpm.
CB: 63-63 mph. Tight 1/7 shape, feel for the zone. T2056, 1984 average rpm.
CH: 64-66 mph. Fades to the arm-side, thrown for strikes. T1786, 1618 average rpm.
