Right handed reliever Matheny showed the next best velocity among the Michigan State pitching staff with a fastball up to 94 mph and a low-80s slider. He allowed one run on four hits during his 2.2 innings of relief on Friday.
A 2020 high school graduate competing in the KCL and holding his own with a 0.00 ERA and six strikeouts in 4.2 IP. He has an easy, on-line delivery producing 85-86 mph sinking fastballs and has good extension out front. His off speed is a work-in-progress, but his 75-77 mph changeup looks to have the most potential at this point.
Southern Illinois-Edwardsville commit. Matheny, started on the mound on Friday afternoon and did it all in a complete-game victory. Matheny ran his fastball up to 89 mph early in the outing and still had 88 in the tank in the seventh. He utilized a three-pitch mix throughout with both flashing above-average potential. Matheny did damage with the bat in the win as well. The left-handed hitter hit two opposite-field doubles, one of which drove in three runs.
6-foot-2, 200-pound, strong-bodied, wide-shouldered, two-way prospect. On the mound, right-handed pitcher, smooth tall and fall delivery, works slightly across his body and lands front-toe open. Clean, quick, loose arm action from a high ¾ window. Fastball, comes out of the hand easy, finish through the zone, arm-side-run, sat 82-85 mph. Curveball, feel for the zone, 11/5 shape, depth at times, 73 mph. Changeup, maintains arm speed, arm-side-run and sink, thrown for strikes, 74-76 mph. Offensively, left-handed hitter, balanced wide setup, short stride, loose hands, level path, hard contact, line-drive approach and fluid rhythm throughout; 92 mph exit velocity from a tee. Defensively, works through the baseball, steady hands, long live arm action, throws carried and topped at 85 mph across the infield. 7.70 runner in the 60, laser-timed.

Easy effort throughout, arm works short, clean and loose from a high ¾ slot. Fastball, arm-side-run, 79-81 mph, touched 82. Curveball, 12/6 shape, 67-71 mph. Changeup, fade action, 71-72 mph. Offensively, left-handed hitter, balanced wide setup, short stride and maintains balance through contact. Uphill bat path, pull approach, ball jumped off the barrel at times; 82 mph exit velocity from a tee. On the infield, clean transfer, quick at times, short, loose arm action and throws 81 mph across the infield. 8.14 runner in the 60.
