Triton JC commit. Durable 6-foot-1, 230-pound frame. Started on the mound and was dominant over his seven innings of work, allowing just one earned run on four hits with three walks and eight strikeouts. The right-hander has some effort in his delivery, but impressively held 86-89 mph throughout the entire outing, playing with some ride at the top of the zone. He often went to a big breaking 11/5 curveball, playing off his fastballs at the top of the zone at 69-74 mph. His final offering was a short, lateral cutter, playing between 77-79 mph and collecting some looking strikes when thrown to his glove-side. Impressive showing from the 2023 right-hander.
Triton JC commit. Another Lincoln-Way West prospect we were able to see multiple times in the last few weeks. Got the start against Downers Grove South and turned in an impressive performance. Went six innings, scattered two hits, no runs, two walks and nine strikeouts. Seemed to be in complete control throughout his outing. Showed an above-average three-pitch mix working with a fastball, curveball and developing slider that is fairly new to his repertoire. Routinely landed his curveball for a strike early in the count and kept hitters guessing throughout. Fastball plays straight, located to both sides of the plate, will go inside with two strikes and sat 85-87 mph. Curveball works off a 12/6 plane, tighter action than seen before, sat 67-70 mph. Slider plays with distinct action, horizontal sweep when at its best, tight spin, sat 75-77 mph. Quality start for the big-bodied senior.
Unsigned senior. 6-foot-1, 230-pound, hulking, durable build. Came out of the bullpen and picked up the save. Struck out two in 0.2 innings of high-stress, high-intensity relief work. Late inning, closer type of look; highly-competitive, no-nonsense demeanor, attacked primarily with fastball, sitting 87-88 mph on every pitch. Did not show a curveball until his final offering of the game, resulting in a backwards K to end the game with the tying run at second base. Curveball is a true top-to-bottom breaking ball with advanced depth. Intriguing quick look by the unsigned senior with above-average arm strength.
