The uncommitted junior backstop has consistently produced for the Bears this season, and it seems that he always manages to come through with clutch at-bats in the biggest moments. Last Tuesday, against Central BR, the Bears were down 2-1 heading into the bottom of the 6th inning, when Clapinski delivered an opposite-field RBI double to tie the game at 2-2. He finished the game going 2-3 with the 2B and RBI, as Catholic BR defeated Central BR by a score of 4-2. "Clap" is a winning player, a guy that you want on your roster, and is going to make a program very happy at the next level.
5'10" 180 lbs. sturdy and durable frame. Clapinski continues to be a guy that performs in-game and just "gets the job done" each time that we see him. Last Thursday against Live Oak, he didn't have a hit, but turned in three quality at-bats. In the bottom of the first, he delivered a sacrifice fly to CF to put the Bears up 1-0. He hit a line drive right at the RF in his second at-bat and then blistered a line drive right at the third baseman in his third at-bat. Defensively, he continues to handle Catholic High's high-end arms well behind the plate, showing that he's a solid receiver and blocker. Clapinski has solidified himself as one of the top uncommitted players and for sure, one of the top uncommitted backstops, in the state of Louisiana.
"Clap" has always been a consistent in-game performer and is a guy who is "more than the sum of his parts" and plays above his overall tool set. Handling arguably the best staff in the state and the top pitcher in the state, in William Schmidt, the uncommitted backstop was impressive defensively all weekend, as he showed good receiving and blocking skills, and also threw out a runner in Game 3 on Saturday. At the plate, he continued to put together quality at-bats, but his biggest swing of the weekend came on Friday night in the bottom of the 1st, when he launched a two run homerun to left field to put the Bears up 4-0.
