GAME OF THE WEEK PREVIEW

Our Week 3 Game of the Week is set to deliver an electrifying showdown as the Catholic (BR) Bears face off against the Live Oak Eagles in a riveting three-game series starting Thursday, February 27, 2025. Both squads currently boast top-tier rankings in our Power 25, with the Bears holding the #2 spot and the Eagles trailing closely at #3. With a dazzling array of talent on display, this contest promises to be a masterclass in athletic prowess and tactical brilliance. The history between these teams adds an extra layer of intrigue, as they last clashed in a three-game series last spring where the Bears swept the Eagles. Now, with fresh ambitions and heightened stakes, every play will count in this high-octane battle for supremacy.

Catholic (BR)

Entering this weekend’s series with a 7-1 record and the #2 spot in our Power 25 Rankings, Catholic (BR) is poised for a thrilling rebound. The Bears ignited their season with a dominant three-game sweep of defending State Champion West Monroe, and despite a narrow 2-1 setback against Thibodaux last week, they’re ready to show what they’re made of against the Eagles.

On the mound, junior left-hander Lucas Lawrence has been nothing short of exceptional. With a 2-0 record, a minuscule 0.81 ERA, and 10 strikeouts across 8 2/3 innings in his two starts, the Southern Miss commit is clearly a rising star. Equally impressive is fellow junior right-hander Mills Richardson, who delivered a standout performance last Friday in a 9-2 win over Thibodaux, tossing 5 innings while allowing just 2 hits and 2 earned runs, along with 1 walk and 6 strikeouts. Richardson, a Southeastern Louisiana commit, has also been swinging the bat well in the early part of this season.

Offensively, the Bears boast a lineup filled with top-tier talent. Seniors Noah Lewis (Louisiana-Lafayette), Jack Ruckert (LSU), Davis Emonet (LSU-Eunice), and Andrew Clapinski (LSU-Eunice) anchor the attack. Adding to the excitement, junior Harrison Kidder is coming off an impressive week at the plate, posting a .455 average with 5 RBI and 2 stolen bases. Reliable seniors Orlando and Edward Henriquez (Alvin Community College) and Chase Harris also consistently deliver, while junior Turner Goldsmith contributed a double, an RBI, and 4 runs across four games last week.

With renewed determination and a roster brimming with talent, Catholic (BR) is set to write the next exciting chapter in their season against the Eagles.

Live Oak

Live Oak surged to a 6-1 record after a commanding three-game series sweep of Dunham last week. Their only setback this season came in a nail-biting 2-1 contest against Sulphur, but the Eagles have already delivered some unforgettable performances. None was more impressive than the explosive 13-1 demolition of Barbe on opening weekend, a clear testament to the team's diverse strengths.

Head Coach Jesse Cassard and company have molded a squad capable of winning in multiple ways—whether through dominant pitching or timely, clutch hitting. Leading the way on the mound is senior RHP Sawyer Pruitt, a Louisiana-Lafayette recruit who has maintained a flawless 2-0 record while striking out 18 batters over 10 innings. Not far behind, senior RHP Trevor Hodges (Mississippi College) earned his first win last Saturday against Dunham by tossing a complete-game shutout and collecting 10 strikeouts.

Offensively, the Eagles are equally impressive. With as many as six seniors anchoring the lineup, the Eagles have shown they can deliver under pressure. Senior Cooper Smith (Louisiana Tech), recognized as our Week 1 Player of the Week, is off to an electric start—hitting at a .571 clip through seven games with 3 home runs, 2 doubles, and 9 RBIs. Additionally, senior Brock Davis (Northwestern State) has been a steady force from the cleanup spot, going 4-for-10 (.400) in three games last week, adding a double, 5 RBIs, and 2 runs to his resume.  Add in guys like seniors Cal Cassard (Bossier Parish Community College), Brayden Allen (Meridian Community College), and Jace Griffin (Baton Rouge Community College), who are all seasoned veterans, and it's easy to see why this Live Oak offense has done well in the early part of this season.

As the Catholic (BR) Bears and Live Oak Eagles prepare to square off in this highly anticipated Week 3 matchup, all eyes will be on the field as both teams—ranked #2 and #3 in our Power 25—bring their A-game. With powerful pitching, dynamic offenses, and a fierce rivalry that saw the Bears sweep the Eagles in their previous meeting, every inning promises to deliver drama, energy, and a showcase of elite talent. Given the stakes, this three-game series is bound to be a thrilling test of resilience and skill. The journey to supremacy begins this Thursday, with both teams poised to leave it all on the field.
