2021 OF Jace Avina (Spanish Springs, NV)- 6-foot-1, 180-pounds, Nevada recruit, Large frame, lean athletic build, defined lower half, present athleticism. Sets up in a spread out base with a neutral stance. Simple repeatable swing, using a small pickup with short forward move. Slight load at shoulder height. Downward entry into zone, working up through the ball. Showed off some power to LCF, working up to 96.4mph at 371 feet with advanced bat speed. Showed off some serious arm strength using a step behind approach, throwing a ball at 98mph over the catcher's head, worked mostly in the low 90s with more accuracy, higher effort. Athletic footwork while creating angles, showing some body awareness, ran a 6.82 60-yard dash, and stayed behind the ball.
Nevada recruit. With many of the players having already made an impact on the national circuit, Avina was a “less famous” name heading into the event, but quickly made himself known. An athletic 6-foot-1, 180-pounder with lean strength throughout a projectable frame, Avina began the day with a 6.72 60-yard dash time before turning in one of the better batting practice performances. Setting up square with the weight evenly distributed, the right-handed hitter utilizes a short stride and minor hand separation before working short to the ball and long through the zone with a more pronounced finish and quality use of the lower-half. He produced exit velocities as high as 101+ mph, and the ball seemed to jump off his barrel with each swing. The intent to do damage carried over into live action as Avina got off some quality, aggressive swings including a two-strike back side single. While some of the other prospects had a bit more twitch, Avina was clearly a “sleeper favorite” of many in attendance.

Body: 6-foot-2, 175-pounds. Lean, sinewy, streamlined, built like a WR. Given his present tools, as he gains musculature and physical maturity those tools could really explode.
6-foot-1, 170-pound frame, lean, athletic build, long limbs, wiry strong. Avina improved on his 60-time lowing it from 7.03 to 6.89 as well as improving his outfield velo from 86 to 87 mph. Defensively, quick first step, aggressive routes, quick exchange at midsection. Loose, quick arm action, high ¾ slot, accurate and carry; 87 mph OF velocity. At the plate, starts in an athletic, narrow stance. Slight bat wrap load, simple, short stride. Efficient, level bat path, high one-handed finish, good extension. Gap to gap approach drives ball to the big part of the yard, flashes of pop to the pull side; 82 mph exit velocity. A young prospect to keep an eye out for as he continues to progress in his all-around game. Infield, starts in a wide, athletic set up, active feet, showed comfort fielding to both side, quick exchange, ability to throw from multiple arm angles, accurate with carry; 80 mph IF velo. Fall '18 - 6-foot, 155, Avina has a high wasted athletic build on present lean and lanky frame. From an athletic background will certainly add mass and strength. Solid actions at SS with projectable arm strength and good carry. Displayed multiple arm angle throws and feel for touch throws as well on double play feeds. Ran well underway on double to LCF. On the hill, low 80’s strike thrower with feel for a changeup. Remember this name he has a chance to be special.
