PBR Nevada ProCase: Blast Motion Analysis

Brett Harrison
Nevada Scouting Director

ABOUT BLAST MOTION:

One of the important tools Prep Baseball Report is starting to implement at its events is the use of Blast Motion sensors. During batting practice, the Blast Motion sensors measure Swing and Impact Metrics across several categories. Swing metrics measure pre-impact mechanics centered around plane, connection, and rotation while Impact metrics measure pre-impact performance outcomes based on ball contact.

At the recent PBR Nevada ProCase that took place at Las Vegas Ballpark, the top prospects in Nevada were set up with a Blast Motion sensor before each round of batting practice. With the Blast Motion sensor, we were able to collect data from each swing taken by each prospect at the event. The metrics collected include: Bat Speed, On Plane Efficiency, Peak Hand Speed, Power and Rotational Acceleration. Each player has their Blast Motion metrics uploaded into each of their profiles following the completion of the event to providing insight into areas that could be improved upon as well as helping paint a clear picture of the player to the college and professional scouts doing their research on prospects they may be interested in.

Here are the top metrics of day from the PBR Nevada ProCase:

Top AVG Bat Speed: Irvin Weems III | Durango | 86.5 mph

Top PEAK Hand Speed: Grayson Grinsell | Reno | 25.4 mph

On-Plane Efficiency: Tyler Whitaker | Bishop Gorman | 87%

Rotational Acceleration: Santino Panaro | Bishop Gorman | 21.8 g

Power: Irvin Weems III | Durango | 4.76 KW

Below will you find the rest of the swing & impact metrics from the event in five different categories measured using the Blast Motion sensors: (TOP- 10 listed)
