6-foot-5, 210-pound southpaw has cemented himself as the top left-handed pitcher in Ohio's class of 2015. Three pitch mix. He throws with long arm action through a 3/4 arm slot. Obvious quickness in his arms. Good angle to his ball. Regular effort to his delivery. Sat 87-90 mph with good run to his ball. Mixed in a sharp 1/7 breaking ball coupled with a 77-80 mph fading changeup sold with good arm speed.
2/23/14
6-foot-5, 210-pound southpaw keeps looking better each time out. His lower half shows signs of improvement, and there is still room to improve. But, it is February. He is a 6-foot-5, 210-pound lefty. And, the arm is quick. On this occasion, he was the best that we have seen him at a consistent 85-88 mph with good cutting action to his fastball. His breaking ball show late 10/4 action down in the zone at 68-71 mph. And, he continues to show command of a third pitch in the form of a 73-76 mph changeup. The reality is that Wolf is far from reaching his ceiling. And, for that reason, he should get his fair share of college coaches at his spring outings.
2/17/14
Good 6-foot-5, 210-pound frame. Lefty threw from a high ¾ clean arm slot. Fastball had some sinking movement at 83-86 mph. Curveball showed good gradual mostly downward break at 70-72 mph. Threw a changeup at fastball arm speed 75-76 mph. Threw three pitches for strikes very interesting follow.
7/29/13
6-foot-4, 185-pound southpaw with tall, thin frame. Throws through high ¾ arm slot. Uses short arm action. Tendency to sit and collapse on backside. Uses a short stride. Fastball sat at 79-81 mph with some cut (we have seen the velocity higher in the past). Used a 63-64 mph breaking ball with gradual 1/7 break down in the zone. Also showed a 71-73 mph changeup.
6/26/13
6-foot-4, 185-pound prospect with tall, solid frame. Projects as a pitcher at the next level. Uses short arm action through high ¾ slot. Upper body type pitcher. Showed an 81-83 mph fastball with arm side run. Also showed a late breaking 65-66 mph slider as an effective out pitch. Also displayed a 74-75 mph changeup thrown near fastball arm speed with fade. With better use of his lower half, he will easily be a mid to upper 80’s pitcher. At first base, he moves well around the bag. Lower half can be a bit stiff. At the plate, he shows some balance in his swing. Uses a short stride. Shows pull tendencies in his swing.
Possess a 6-foot-4, 185-pound projectable frame. The big southpaw is full of raw talent. He throws from a high ¾ arm slot with above average arm speed. He showed an 81-85 mph fastball with good cutting action to it. With improved use of his lower half, he will easily see a jump in his velocity. His curveball shows gradual 1/7 break at 66-67 mph while his changeup shows some fade at 73-74 mph. He could emerge as one of the top pitching prospects in his class with improved use of his lower half.
8/8/12
6-foot-4, 165-pound southpaw with thin, lanky frame. Definite follow in the Class of 2015. Still learning how to use lower half. Throws from a low ¾ to ¾ arm slot. Fastball sits 78-82 mph with good run to it. When he quickens the pace of his delivery and incorporates the lower half, his fastball sat at 81-82 mph. Shows a plus breaking ball with 2/8 break. Throws it near fastball arm speed at 65-67 mph. Also showed a potential third pitch with a 69 mph changeup thrown near fastball arm speed. The pitch was straight but showed some fade to it. Still learning how to use his body, but shows sign of great potential for the future.
3/14/18 - 6’6/220, Junior. Friday’s starter. Very tough on left-handed hitters. Throws from a arm slot and lands slightly closed. Featured a plus cutter, 84-87 mph as his best pitch, and one that he began throwing last summer in the Cape after googling “Mariano Rivera cutter”. He was able to spot it up away to freeze right-handed hitters on occasion, as well as to tie them up inside. Maintained his fastball velocity of 89-92 mph for the entire six inning outing and 103 pitches. Showed above average control by working it to both sides of the plate and elevating when ahead with two strikes. Also showed an average slider at 81-83 mph and a firm changeup/backdoor cutter at 84-85 mph. Managed the game extremely well, as all Louisville pitchers seem to do. He was especially good controlling the running game with a variety of pickoff moves, including a step-back pick, a slide-step delivery and his specialty; a balk move, where he exceeds the 45 degree angle. Overall, Wolf showed the stuff and abilities to be selected in the middle rounds of Day 2 of the draft and profiles as a premier situational reliever, which every team needs.
