AUSTIN REYNA, Santa Fe (TX), 2027
Positional Profile: SS/2B LHH/INF with good build/frame to add needed strength. Moves well on baseball field, plus runner, looking for speed to increase some with added strength and physical maturity. Actions present in infield. Arm strength will improve. Solid bat/power combo in future. Can firm ability to use all fields, shows line drive contact now. Good player with solid fundamentals. Interesting player to watch develop as he adds strength.
Body: 5-9, 160-pounds. Solid build/frame. Avg width to shoulders and back. Good frame to add strength to with growth and maturity. Good physical projections.
Hit: LHH. Knee lift stride, lands in good position to hit. Rotational back foot, does a solid job of using lower 1/2 in swing. Hits into firm front side, nicer job of driving lower 1/2 into firm front leg/front side. Solid approach. Barrel/hands in good position to launch. Takes solid path to hit zone. Pull approach, would like to see improved pitch/location recognition, developing ability to use all fields. Overall, solid swing. 65 mph bat speed with 23 G's of rotational acceleration.
Power: 92 max exit velocity, averaged 86.7 mph. 333' max distance. Solid bat/power combo in future. Sound hit approach, swing works. Would like to see development of ability to use all fields, hit where pitched.
Arm: RH. INF-78 mph. Arm works well, shows ability to throw from all angles. Recommend long toss program to increase raw arm strength and arm speed.
Defense: Feet work well getting to baseball and in fielding process. Does a nice job of playing thru baseball. Fields ball well, hands in good position of left foot. Solid on backhand play with feet/hands. Nice actions.
ATH: 6.85 runner in the 60. Runs well with premium speed. Clean arm swing with a good slight forward lean the entire way.
Vizual Edge: 72.58 Edge Score
Reyna is a solid all-around middle infielder with a left-handed bat and steady tools across the board. At 5’9”, 160 lbs, he moves well, posting a 6.85 60, and shows the kind of athleticism that gives him a shot to stay up the middle. He’s a sound defender with reliable hands and internal clock, and his 78 mph infield velo will tick up as he adds more strength. Projects well as a shortstop/second base hybrid.
At the plate, Reyna showed bat speed and rotational quickness (65.7 mph bat speed / 25.9 G rotational acceleration) and posted a 92.1 max EV, averaging 86.7. The swing has rhythm and intent — short to contact with some feel to lift — and he drove the ball out to 333 feet. With continued physical development, the gap-to-gap power should keep trending upward.
Reyna’s game is built around energy, athleticism, and balance. He’s a left-handed-hitting infielder who can handle the baseball on both sides, and there’s reason to believe he’s just scratching the surface as he matures physically.
