Second look at Gomez for me and he continued to show his smooth swing with a simple approach at the dish. After seeing him put up QABS in my first watch, Gomez did a great job at controlling the zone and being selective against Benicia. He looked for pitches to drive against a RHP that was painting the outside corner with offspeed mixed in with a FB. Gomez took advantage of two mistake pitches on the inner lower half of the zone, pulling a 2B and a 1B. He does a nice job staying tall on his backside and has a consistent direct bat path to the baseball. He doesn’t get to big in his swings showing he is there to stick to his approach and drive the baseball the other way. He has a physical build for a LHH 3B and looks the part, making plays look easy with a strong arm. Gomez has been an impressive watch thus far as he has a mature approach at the dish with good tools on both sides of the diamond.

It was my first look at Gomez and he displayed nice tools at 3B with a mature approach at the dish. Gomez is a big frame INF with fluid movements at his position. He moves well with his big frame and made nice plays throughout the game. He has the arm to stick at 3B with the glove work and active feet as a SS. At the plate he had a loud barrel that landed for a hit to CF. His swing displays fluid movements with a small stride. He is able to stay behind his front side and he rotates with a short compact swing with decent extension. Throughout the game he had quality at-bats but the results led to weak contact vs a quality arm. Overall, he has a smooth LH stroke and quick hands at the plate . Gomez was able to work counts throughout the game and displayed a solid middle-middle approach.

Hitting cleanup for Clayton Valley, I was very intrigued by Gomez’s offensive profile. With a smooth LH stroke and quick hands at the plate, Gomez has a swing path that creates consistent lift and makes hard contact often. Working multiple deep counts, Gomez put up three quality AB’s on the day. After a 4 pitch BB to begin his day, Gomez barreled a 1-2 SL down the RF line for a stand-up triple in his second trip, coming around to score on a groundout for Clayton Valley’s lone run. In his third trip, he smoked a 1-2 FB into deep LCF, getting to 2nd on an E7 off the LF’s glove. Comfortable hitting with two strikes, the UC Santa Barbara commit gets into his front side well, with good bat speed present. Standing at 6’ 3”, 195 lbs, Gomez displays plenty of pull-side power, with the ability to go the other way.
