Gonzalez continues to be the spark plug for the Broncos as he had another standout performance for RB. On the 3rd pitch of the game, he smashed an opposite field home run and each time I have seen him since January he has been on the barrel. He lined out later in the 7th inning as well as he continues to compete in every at bat and seems to never be an easy out for opposing pitchers, especially with 2 strikes. He has a simple approach in the box with a quiet load and short stride and a level path that lets the ball travel as he consistently drives the ball to the opposite field. At SS, he showcases range to both sides and has soft hands with the glove. What has stood out to me and also to Prep Baseball’s Matt Monk, is that Gonzalez is the vocal leader and heart and soul of the Broncos roster. Each time we have seen them play, it seems his teammates gravitate to his leadership and they look to him to ignite the ball club which he does time and time again.
Gonzalez is another member of the 2026 class who had the opportunity to start in his sophomore year. This year he has moved to the infield dirt from the outfield and into the leadoff spot. So far this Winter/Spring, he has shown confident and coordinated actions at short and has lived on the barrel. He shows a strong and analytical understanding of the game and is a vocal part of the culture at Rancho Bernardo. In-game, Gonzalez had two barrels, his first being a double to the wall in right center field and the second being a line out to the right side. The swing is simple and compact with a slight lean on his front foot. He has been shooting the ball to all fields and looks the part of a high-average leadoff hitter with potential for XBHs with his all-fields approach.
