With plenty of eyes on him, Jutronich delivered a well put-together performance, striking out 11 over 5 shutout innings while allowing just two hits. The left-hander came out strong, working 88-90 mph and touching 91 in the first inning, before settling into the 85-88 range through innings two through five. He showed plus command from start to finish, attacking the zone with confidence and creating late swing decisions. His closed-off landing adds deception, and the ball jumps on hitters earlier than expected. Jutronich mixed a sharp 74-77 mph curveball with a firm 79-82 mph changeup, giving him three quality offerings he could land for strikes or use to miss bats. The length in his frame stands out, and with added strength already evident — up from topping at 86 this time last year — there’s reason to believe more velocity gains could still be ahead. He even accounted for the game’s only run, driving in the lone tally with a barreled RBI single through the 5-6 hole in the first inning.

Dominant. Impeccable. Unhittable. There aren’t many better ways to describe Jason Jutronich’s performance against Poway. The junior southpaw looked well beyond his age on the mound and after striking out the side on just 11 pitches in the first inning, it was clear I was in for a masterclass. Jutronich finished with 6 ⅓ innings pitched, with 11 punchouts and allowing just 4 hits and 1 walk in giving him a win versus Poway. What stood out most was his confidence, he commanded the zone early with off-speed mostly commanding the inner-part of the plate, then ramped up his fastball to finish hitters when needed. Jutronich worked from a low three-quarters arm slot, making his pitch mix tough to pick up. His curveball, which often resembled a tight slurve, featured a small, sharp break that disrupted timing, while his slider was flat-out nasty, a true out pitch that visibly made hitters uncomfortable. The feel he showed for both pitches was advanced, and his ability to attack the zone with different looks made him incredibly effective. To top it off, Jutronich also contributed at the plate, hitting out of the cleanup spot and driving in the game’s first run with a sac fly to deep right field, later adding a single and scoring in the fifth. A two-way threat with poise and presence, Jutronich left no doubt about the kind of impact he can make on both sides of the ball.
