4/10/26
Partida was sharp and efficient from the jump, working five innings while allowing just one earned run on two hits with three strikeouts. The Arizona State commit showed a full mix with a FB/CH/SNK/CB, and he controlled the outing with the way he sequenced everything together. The stuff is solid on its own, but what stood out most was how he managed at bats and kept Eastlake from ever getting comfortable. He works with real tempo, gets the ball and goes, and that pace clearly played into his favor throughout the day. The CH was the clear separator and looked like his best pitch by a good margin. It had late diving action and consistently gave hitters trouble, both in timing and overall swing decisions. He paired it well with a FB in the upper 80s that got into 92, and there looked to be some arm side action there as well, especially when he mixed in the SNK. The CB and SL both showed usable movement, but the CH was the pitch that really drove the outing. Overall, it was a polished look from Partida, who showed quality stuff, strong rhythm on the mound, and an understanding of how to control the game at his own pace.
4/01/26

Partida featured a commanding presence on the mound standing at 6'2" 185lbs. He struggled early in the game and several miscues from his defense would lead to his 4 ER on the day. Despite the trouble early on, Partida quickly settled in. The future Sun Devil featured a FB. CH, CB, CL, Sinker mix but relied heavily on the FB and CB. The FB was lively, firm, and had a lot of late life. He demonstrated strong command of the FB to all areas of the plate and generated soft contact a majority of the time. The CB was very effective down in the zone where he got a majority of hitters to chase. He missed low in the zone early on but quickly managed to spot his off speed pitches. Partida went 5 IP with 7Ks and 1BB. What I liked the most about Partida was his tempo and command of the game. He worked expetionally fast and consistently caught hitters sleeping. Partida is having a solid year on the bump thus far, boasting a 1.75 ERA in 5 appearances and I expect these numbers to remain solid throughout the year.

4/10/25

This was my first look at Jose Partida this year following his transfer sit-out period, and the ‘27 southpaw delivered a strong debut performance. He threw 5 innings against Grossmont, allowing 2 runs and striking out 5 in a solid first outing to kick off his 2025 season. While he didn’t record a plate appearance, Partida was efficient on the mound and kept Cathedral Catholic within reach of a comeback win. What stood out most was his command of the changeup, which consistently disrupted hitters’ timing, and paired well with a CB/SL mix that induced some whiffs. His off-speed feel is advanced for a sophomore, and he wasn’t afraid to challenge hitters early, pounding the zone with a fastball that topped at 88 mph. Grossmont capitalized early in the first inning, but Partida showed maturity by settling in from innings two through four and keeping damage limited. As a two-way lefty with both mound presence and polish, Partida looks poised to build off this outing, not just on the hill, but with the bat as well.
