Weddle continues to impress across what is now my third live look at him (two full games and one shorter look when came off the bench late as a Soph.) and is convincing me more of his defensive profile fitting at SS long-term. Weddle made a trio of intriguing plays including ranging to his backhand in a 1st/2nd situation to field a solid GB and accurately throw to 3B in attempt to retire the lead runner, came downhill athletically to his glove side on another solid hit GB into a clean quick transfer and made a solid throw to 1B to nail the runner and finally quickly opening his hips to range back on a solid line drive before leaping up to rob a single. Already a solid defender, the flashes of athleticism and more dynamic range is showing the long term profile for Weddle has a real ability to stick at the premium spot. At the plate the swing for Weddle continues to tick up as he showed more consistency in getting the ball to the OF with solid contact through an improved feel for leveraging the bottom half of the baseball through a swing which is staying in the zone more consistently. Weddle is showing more intent in his swing which has added a tick more bat speed without losing his solid feel for the barrel at contact which parlayed into a pair of hits, a SAC FLY to straightaway CF and finally a hard line out to CF. Another player in the 2026 class who has an up arrow next to his name.
