Michael Ruiz, St. Augustine (CA), 2026
Positional Profile: SS/OF Long-levered, versatile INF with present hit tool.
Body: 6-2, 181-pounds. Lean, athletic frame with length and room for added strength.
Hit: LHH. Starts upright with relaxed posture and quiet hands. Minimal pre-pitch movement. Loads primarily through a small gather into the back hip rather than a pronounced stride. Hands stay tight to the body and work directly to contact, keeping the barrel on plane early. Stays short through the zone and is efficient with contact made out front, producing firm, line drives. Path favors staying through the middle of the field with limited excess lift, matching a high line-drive contact profile more than a pure loft swing. 66.7 mph bat speed with 14 G's of rotational acceleration.
Power: 94 max exit velocity, averaged 84.8 mph. 275' max distance.
Arm: RH. INF-83 mph. Clean arm action with carry. Throws are accurate on routine plays and show enough strength to handle the left side or shift to the OF as needed.
Defense: Hands work out in front with clean gathers and quick exchanges. Comfortable on the move and shows the athleticism to handle lateral actions on the dirt.
ATH: 6.97 runner in the 60. 1.62 and 3.87 in the 10 and 30 yard splits.
Vizual Edge: 62.38 Edge Score
Michael Ruiz, St. Augustine (CA), 2026
Positional Profile: SS/OF Projectable SS who displays good feel for the barrel and fluid defensive actions.
Body: 6-1, 173-pounds. Lean, well-proportioned build with room to add strength throughout frame.
Hit: LHH. Wide, balanced setup with a slight crouch. Hands sit just above the shoulder with the barrel resting fairly flat. Subtle bat waggle present. Initiates the load by sitting into the back hip as the hands drift back and the barrel tips vertical. Uses a small leg kick for timing before striding forward under control. Hip turn begins at foot strike, creating good separation with hands staying back. Demonstrates solid bat speed while keeping hands tight to the body. Works with a subtle uphill path that stays on plane, producing loud contact and frequent line drives. Displays ability to hit to all fields. 68.5 mph bat speed with 11 G's of rotational acceleration.
Power: 98 max exit velocity, averaged 90.4 mph. 327' max distance.
Arm: RH. INF-83 mph. Short, compact arm action with fluid mechanics. Works primarily from a 3/4 slot, but shows comfort throwing from multiple angles. Throws have good carry and accuracy, projecting to stick on the left side of the infield.
Defense: Stands tall with an athletic frame. Moves well laterally and shows good range, frequently works to get around the ball. Attacks plays downhill with intent. Projects to stick up the middle with his current skill set.
ATH: 6.80 runner in the 60. 1.61 and 3.82 in the 10 and 30 yard splits. 19.90 max vertical.
Vizual Edge: 66.95 Edge Score
Ruiz grabbed two hits in the loss against Patrick Henry. I’ve been intrigued by the profile since last year. Ruiz profiles well as a first baseman, standing at around 6’1. From what I’ve heard, he also has gotten work in on the left side of the infield. He swings left-handed and has consistently churned out hard contact up the middle and to the pull side. His first hit came by line drive, keeping the hands level and getting on plane early to a high fastball. Ruiz would follow that with a groundball into RF for his second hit. He provides depth down the lineup and a stable presence at first base with a potential move to the left side of the infield next year.
