Carpinteria vs. Channel Islands

Isaiah Osuna, SS, Channel Islands, 2028

Osuna slotted into the SS position on opening day of the 2025 high school season and the athletic, bouncy Fr. has excelled playing the premium defensive spot while posting an impressive offensive season. Osuna gets there with bouncy, smooth actions at SS where his feet demonstrate a quick first step, confident & athletic actions playing into the baseball while showing rhythm through the ball with ability to play one or two handed. Osuna looks comfortable playing downhill with a currently accurate arm that can throw from multiple slots and will continue adding strength as he matures physically over his high school career. He played clean defense throughout the game including a nice downhill play slightly to his backhand side he delivered an accurate throw on. At the plate I’m intrigued with the overall operation from a fluid RH swing with quickness in the bat path that gets into the zone early to use the opposite field while staying flatter through the zone to produce leverage through the  middle of the field playing to a high contact/gap to gap doubles power profile at present. Osuna loads early with a slight step back of his front foot and then makes a controlled forward move with hands slightly separating from the body and uses the lower ½ effectively with feel to deliver the barrel at contact. As he again continues to mature physically he has the foundation to tap into more power by adding more intent to his forward move and using lower ½ more aggressively. The foundation of tools for Osuna is impressive being just a Fr. and with plenty of time to continue developing/improving his overall profile the future for the SS looks very bright.
