3/09/26

Pink delivered one of the key swings in Great Oak’s come-from-behind win, ripping a triple that showcased both the strength and confidence he brings to the box. The left-handed hitter looks noticeably stronger compared to last spring and continues to show a confident approach at the plate. Pink hunts mistakes and attacks pitches he can handle, using an aggressive swing and long stride designed to drive the baseball. Even with the intent to do damage, he still shows the ability to let the ball travel, shoot it the other way, and spoil pitches in two-strike counts thanks to solid barrel control. Defensively, Pink handled duties at shortstop with soft hands and an average but accurate arm across the diamond. With Gavin Fien departing after being selected in the first round of the 2025 MLB Draft, Pink now shifts into the everyday shortstop role after playing multiple spots across the field last season. The offensive presence is what drives the profile, but the tools and athleticism give indication that he can grow into a very serviceable shortstop to complement the bat. With added strength and growing confidence at the plate, the future Aztec appears poised for a big season as he takes on a larger role in the Wolf Pack lineup.

3/21/25

Sophomore Sam Pink put together an impressive showing at the plate, demonstrating a great left-handed swing with a mature approach for his age. In his first at-bat, he laced a single through the 4-hole, showcasing his ability to stay inside the ball and let the barrel do the work. Later in the game, he continued to display his opposite-field approach, driving a hard ground ball the other way. His ability to use the whole field at such a young age highlights his advanced bat-to-ball skills and potential for continued growth as a hitter. At 5’10” with room to grow, Pink has plenty of physical development ahead of him. As he continues to fill out his frame, it will be exciting to see how his power develops, especially given the strong lower-half usage in his swing. He already stays back well in his stride, allowing him to adjust to different pitch speeds and keep his hands inside the baseball. His barrel travels through the zone efficiently, generating solid contact with natural lift, which should translate to gap-to-gap power as he matures. With a great swing, a strong approach, and plenty of room to develop, Sam Pink is a hitter to watch in the coming years. His natural ability to handle the bat and consistent contact skills make him a promising offensive talent in the Great Oak lineup.
