Wilson intrigued me with a solid live look back in January where he showed a feel for a three pitch mix (FB/SLD/CHG), ability to throw strikes and a solid delivery foundation. Having spent most of the spring piggybacking with the Dons starter on Tuesdays and has put together a solid Soph. campaign on the varsity level and this day was no different. Working predominantly off his FB-SLD mix the two offerings are solid present pitches with the FB living at 80-82 MPH while featuring sink/run to the arm side which sets up his interesting SLD in the 69-73 MPH range which showed biting life to the glove side when thrown in the 72-73 MPH range including an ability to induce whiff/chase from both RH and LH hitters. Wilson dropped in a few 70-72 MPH CHGs which flash potential, but needs to polish his feel for the pitch and the pitches shape (killing lift and generating more arm side fade). With an east/west attack profile and feel to throw strikes at a high level Wilson induced heavy GB contact or soft contact from the Bulldogs lineup while picking up one strikeout. The delivery for Wilson is relatively low effort while staying online consistently through release/finish which plays to his ability to pound the strike zone that projects a future as a starter. How high the ceiling for Wilson is will be ultimately determined by adding life to his FB, power to his SLD and polishing his feel for the CHG as he continues to mature and develop. An interesting follow in the 2027 class as a solid foundation LHP who shows upside in his future profile.
