4/29/25
After seeing Spangler a few times early on in the season, I was curious to get a final look at the junior as the regular season begins to wind down. Similarly to previous outings, the Stanford commit put on a show at the plate, going 3-5 with 2 HR, 5 RBI, and 4 runs scored, putting together 5 QAB on the day and showcasing a plus hit tool. After sending a high chopper through the right side for a single in his first AB, Spangler worked a very competitive 7-pitch HBP, spoiling multiple 2-strike pitches and demonstrating great breaking ball recognition. Spangler’s third trip would be his first HR of the day, barreling a 2-0 FB over the fence in RCF. Spangler looked to go for back-to-back homers on the first pitch of his next AB, where he would smack another FB to deep RCF, this time caught by the RF just in front of the warning track. Spangler’s final two AB’s would be the first time I’ve seen him face a lefty this season. After swinging through a 1-2 SL away in his first AB, Spangler would barrel up a first pitch FB in his next trip for his second HR of the day (a grand slam) to RCF again, to virtually the same spot that his first HR landed. With a great bat speed at the plate, Spangler makes consistent hard contact with several barrels, getting in front of the baseball well. Spangler demonstrates a fluid LH stroke that creates lift on pitches up in the zone. Defensively, Spangler continues to show soft hands with smooth actions at SS. Showcasing plus tools on both sides of the ball, I’m intrigued to see how Spangler refines his game as he heads into his senior season.
3/26/25

Each time I see Spangler in person, I continue to be impressed with his approach at the plate. Hitting out of the 2-hole, Spangler reached base three times and put together three competitive AB’s on the day. In his first trip, Spangler picked up a double on his first swing of the day, smoking an 0-1 FB over the CF’s head. He would then follow up with a first-pitch hard-hit single on a CH through the right side in his second trip. After a HBP in his third trip, Spangler worked an 8 pitch AB, fouling off multiple 2-strike pitches before striking out on a CH in the dirt. With plus bat speed and good bat-to-ball skills, Spangler consistently finds the barrel and makes hard contact, regularly hitting the ball out in front. Making a couple nice plays at SS charging in on the ball, Spangler demonstrates quiet feet, with good hands, and a quick release, making for a strong all-around profile.

3/13/25

This was my second straight game seeing Spangler and he instantly established his presence in the box with his first swing. Hitting out of the 2-hole, Spangler got the De La Salle offense rolling early, smashing a homer to dead center on a 1-1 fastball up in the zone. Spangler finished 2-3 on the day with all 3 at-bats resulting in hard contact. In his second at-bat, Spangler barreled up a hanging breaking ball high off the netting in right-center field, having to settle for a long single given how hard it was hit. In his third at-bat, Spangler was just out in front of an 0-2 pitch and smashed a liner directly at the 1B. Spangler showcases quick hands and good bat-to-ball skills at the plate, allowing him to comfortably get out in front of the ball well. At SS, Spangler has quiet feet and good hands. He showed off his range in the top of the seventh, making a nice play up the middle on a short-hop to get the leadoff batter. With a solid arm, Spangler has the tools to stick at SS.
