Second look at Santina for me and the Cal commit stood out with his advanced bat speed and direct bat path to the baseball. Santina stands at 6-2, looking the part in the OF and at the dish. He went up against a RHP that focused on throwing SLs away and FBs in. Santina took advantage of a FB in , belting a HR to LF giving his team the lead in the 5th. In his swing, Santina has explosive tools that really gives him a nice offensive profile. He has strong, quick hands through the zone and displayed he can get inside a pitch quickly with extension. He uses a leg kick and is able to get lift when extending through the zone. His hips are also extremely quick and he gets his foot down to stay behind the baseball repeatedly. Everything about his swing is explosive and he is a hitter that can do damage on mistake pitches. At times there can be some swing and miss in his profile, but it’s no surprise because his ability to drive pitches out of the park is a big part of his game.

Once again hitting leadoff for Clayton Valley, Della Santina racked up two hard-hit balls in his first two AB’s, and put up a competitive AB in his third trip. Throughout the game, the Cal commit was aggressive in the box, swinging at the first or second pitch in each AB. After leading off the bottom of the 1st with a hard-hit groundout to 3rd, the junior smoked a liner into RCF on a 1-0 FB low and away. After seeing Della Santina succeed using a pull-side/up-the-middle approach in my first look at him, it was intriguing to see him use the opposite field and show that he can hit to all fields. Despite swinging through a 1-2 SL away in his final AB, I was impressed by his bat-to-ball skills, putting up a 7-pitch battle and fouling off 3 straight 0-2 pitches. With quick hands, a bat path that stays through the zone well, and a strong front side, the junior should continue to excel out of the leadoff spot for Clayton Valley, thanks to his solid offensive profile.

3/25/25

Hitting leadoff for Clayton Valley, the recent Cal commit put on quite the show at the plate to lead the Ugly Eagles to a 6-5 win over Las Lomas. Della Santina doesn’t get cheated at the plate, doing all of his damage on fastballs. Della Santina got Clayton Valley’s offense started with a first-pitch, hard-hit single back up the middle, adding in a stolen base on the next pitch and later scoring on an infield single. After an RBI groundout in his second AB, Della Santina’s third trip to the plate wound up being the game-winner. With a runner on 2nd, Della Santina would barrel a 2-2 FB at shoulder level over the LF fence for a no-doubter, giving Clayton Valley much-needed insurance at the time. Armed with a high leg kick and quick hands, Della Santina showcases a pull-side/up-the-middle approach at the plate. With solid bat-to-ball skills, the ability to stay inside the baseball, and a bat path that stays through the zone, Della Santina has a solid offensive floor. Coupled with good athleticism at the plate/on the bases, the 6’ 2”, 180 lbs junior demonstrates a well-rounded offensive profile.
