Uncommitted, currently ranked No. 200 in the state. Physical 6-foot, 240-pound frame. Started at first and hit out of the three-hole. Runkel put together multiple impressive plate appearances. The right-handed hitter operates from a wide, balanced base with a toe-tap. Strong hands from a power swing with an uphill bat path. Intentful, whippy with pull-side power. Connected on a deep flyout to center field in the sixth inning. Showed off his patient approach in the first inning as he worked a walk after getting behind 1-2 in the count. Handled first base well.
Uncommitted, currently ranked No. 193 in the state. Sturdy 6-foot, 240-pound frame with strength present throughout. Runkel got the start on the bump for the Rockets, tossing six innings and only allowing four runs and two earned to earn the win. The right-hander was able to miss barrels with his arm-side fastball that sat 79-81 mph. He also utilized a 65-67 mph curveball with an 11/5 shape, and a lateral slider at 70-71 mph. Final Line: 6.0 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 7 K. On the offensive side, Runkel helped his own cause in the first inning by sending an opposite side three-run homer to give the Rockets the lead.
Runkel earned the start on the mound and tossed four shutout innings. On the mound, Runkel showed an easy delivery with minimal effort and a long, loose arm action with some quickness out front. His fastball sat mostly 77-81 mph, and touched 82 mph early, and he also mixed in a slider at 65-67 mph with short, horizontal actions. A name-to-follow in the 2026 class.
INF Ajay Runkel (Rochester, 2026) displayed some power from his strong right-handed swing on Wednesday. Listed at 6-foot, 240-pounds, Runkel showcased strong hands that worked quickly from his launch position, utilizing an uphill path to create a max EV of 91.9 mph with a max distance of 329’. Simple swing, creates extension through the ball, looks to be able to handle in-game velocity.

Runkel’s plenty sturdy in his own right, holding strength throughout his 6-foot stature. He stays short and through the baseball with intent to elevate to the pull-side, working on the barrel into the left-center gap throughout his round. Runkel showed arm strength for his age on the mound as well, pitching at 82-84 mph with his fastball. He landed a 67-70 mph curveball (T2301 RPM) with more drop for strikes and also threw a slider (T2472 RPM) that spun more laterally in the low-70s.
