The 6-foot, 175-pound, well-proportioned, left-hander is one of the more consistent performers in the Illinois’ 2021 class. Cmiel once again did what we have become accustomed to seeing. Threw a high-volume of strikes, competes, worked his fastball to both sides of the plate, showed three-pitches at any time and missed barrels. Fastball sat mostly 80-82 mph, touching 84.
Positional Profile: LHP
Body: 6-0, 175-pounds. Strong frame with some physicality.
Delivery: Steady drop/drive type delivery, shoulders stay level, lead leg swing with closed hips to footstrike, works in line to target, square landing.
Arm Action: LH. Long arm action, 3/4 slot.
FB: T83, 82-82 mph. Some jump out of the hand, plays straight and thrown for strikes.
CB: 62-63 mph. 1/7 shape, loose spin with early break.
CH: 72-72 mph. Fastball arm speed, natural fading action with feel; above-average pitch.
Uncommitted, 6-foot, 175-pound, left-hander has thrown well for much of the summer. Velocity continues to tick up. Came out of the bullpen and showed a loose, quick arm. Fastball, control of the zone, worked both sides of the plate, sat 83-84 mph, touched 85. Mixed in an upper-70’s breaking ball. Upside uncommitted left-handed arm.
Positional Profile: LHP
Body: 6-foot, 175-pounds. Average lean frame.
Delivery: Tall and fall delivery, stays back and works over front side with regular effort, stays balanced throughout. Finishes out over front side with extension.
Arm Action: LH. High 3/4 slot, full arm circle, clean path.
FB: T82, 79-82 mph. Plays with run to arm side, showed control and occasional sink.
CB: 64-72 mph. 1/7 shape, slight deceleration at times.
CH: 72-74 mph. Slight fading action while showing feel for strike zone at times, thrown near fastball arm speed.
+ Charlie Cmiel (York HS, IL) did not show his normal low-80’s fastball but he was lights out in his relief appearance for Top Tier in the morning game on Day two. Cmiel has a long, lean 5-foot-11, 165-pound frame and loose, clean arm. Cmiel worked in and out with the fastball, throwing a high-volume of strikes and went to a swing-and-miss changeup as his out pitch. Given Cmiel’s loose, clean arm, he is bound to make a jump in velocity at some point soon.
Positional Profile: LHP
Body: 5-foot-11, 165-pounds.
Delivery: Deceptive delivery with regular effort, crossfire type direction.
Arm Action: LH. Long and loose arm action, high 3/4 slot.
FB: T80, 78-80 mph. Runs to arm side.
CB: 64-68 mph. 2/8 shape, sweepiung action.
CH: 72-74 mph. Sinks to arm side.
5-foot-11, 163-pound left-handed pitcher, long-limbed frame with upside. Short side step to low hanging knee balance, leg kicks out and lands in-line to home, toe strikes closed, athletic finish. Arm plays short, whippy and loose out front, clean ¾ slot, regular effort. Fastball filled the zone with late run, sat 78-79 mph, topped 80 mph. Can spin a curveball, 2/8 slurvy shape with arm speed, 63-66 mph. Changeup faded to his arm side nice off the fastball, 70-73 mph.
5-foot-11, 155-pound left-handed pitcher, lean long legged frame. Delivery works with tempo and pace, calm mound presence, in control. Arm action is loose, short draw, some length out front, ¾ slot. Fastball showed late running action to arm side, 77-79 mph. Curveball has 1/7 shape, gradual action occasionally around it, 61-63 mph. Flashed changeu pat 60 mph, fade action.
5-foot-11, 145-pound, lanky, high-waisted two-way player. On the mound, left-handed pitcher, drop and drive delivery, closed landing, cross-bodied style with some athleticism in finish. Long, loose arm action, some quickness out front, high ¾ arm slot with some effort involved. Fastball flashed run, around the zone, 74-76 mph. Slider, 1/7 shape, sat 61-63 mph. Changeup showed some sink with arm speed, 66-69 mph. Offensively, right-handed hitter, balanced setup, back load with a short stride. Long, uphill path, pull side tendencies and exit velocity topped 76 mph off a tee. Defensively, steady footwork, clean exchange, long arm with a high ¾ slot. Throws topped 74 mph across. Ran a laser timed 8.11 60.
5-foot-11, 130-pound, long, lanky, left-handed pitcher, has feel on the mound. Works from a low ¾ slot, utilizes opposing horizontal movement on fastball and slider to breakdown batters. Fastball, arm side run and sinking action, 73-75 mph. Slider, sweeping action, 63-65.
