RHP James Wasson (Nazareth Academy, 2027) is a high-upside arm from Illinois that’s currently ranked No. 51 in the state’s incoming junior class. At 6-foot-5, 215-pounds, Wasson seemingly has projection still to come. He showcased one of the loudest bullpen’s from the event, working his fastball up to 90 mph (event best) and sitting mostly upper-80s with an average of 17.1 inches of horizontal movement. Wasson turned to a curveball that sat 68-71 mph, and played with an average of -6.7 inches of induced vertical break and -14.6 inches of horizontal movement. To round out his arsenal, Wasson threw a low-70s change-up. Wasson also ran a 6.34 60 time, the best of the event. He’s an uncommitted name-to-know heading into August 1st.

Uncommitted. Currently ranked No. 70 in the state. Lean, high-waisted 6-foot-5, 200-pound frame with some present strength throughout. Closed the game out for Naz and proved to be an arm to continue to know in the state. He has a simple and athletic operation, throwing from a loose and easy low ¾ slot. His fastball had life out of the hand, reaching up to 88 mph, while sitting 83-87 mph. Wasson would also toss in a 72-73 mph curveball to round out his arsenal.
RHP James Wasson (Nazareth Academy, 2027) spins everything in his arsenal at a high rate. The 6-foot-5, 195-pound freshman threw a straight, four-seam fastball at 85-86 mph that peaked at 2554 RPM. He spun two different breaking balls that each averaged more than 16 inches of horizontal movement; a 69-71 mph curveball at 2464 RPM on average and a more firm 73-75 mph slider that averaged 2443 RPM.

Wasson showed out on the mound during his short outing. Already standing at 6-foot-4 with a frame that oozes projection, Wasson has advanced arm strength and is able to run his fastball up to 84 mph, sitting 80-83 mph throughout his 1.2 innings of work. Also, confident in his secondary pitches, Wasson mixes in a 11/5 curveball that he is able to land in the zone and a changeup that he throws with intent. Wasson has really popped this past weekend and will be an upside arm to follow throughout the summer circuit.
