A powerful, 6-foot-2, 240-pound frame, Phillips showed well on the mound in Top Tier West’s championship game Monday. The right-handed thrower was athletic on the mound with a quick and fluid motion. He threw from a low ¾ arm slot with loose quick arm action. His fastball was sitting 82-84 mph, topping out at 86 mph and his slider was sitting 72-73 mph. Phillips relied heavily on his fastball which had late glove-side run. He stayed confident on the mound and was able to work out of trouble early in the game. Also a right-handed hitter, Phillips swings a heavy barrel with intent; simple and easy operation, extremely quick and strong hands through the zone, is able to see spin and control his body well.
