Arizona State commit. Currently ranked No. 12 in the Illinois’ 2023 rankings. Well-proportioned 6-foot-3, 195-pound frame, room to tack strength onto a durable body with prototypical starter’s size. Started for Warren Township on a cold windy sub-35 degree day, punched out five batters in two innings of work. Works with little effort downhill, repeating a simple tall/fall type delivery consistently while maintaining direction to front footstrike. Transfers weight onto a stable lead leg, does drift slightly towards the first base side following release. Got in a rhythm early from the first batter of the game and maintained it, quick worker, calm and collected presence on the mound. Arm plays with length on the backside and finishes from a high ¾ slot. Fastball touched 91 mph, sitting at 88-90 mph, played straight while primarily working east-to-west. Turned to the curveball often, confidence to spin it to get ahead in counts and when behind, played at 72-73 mph with gradual action off an 11/5 plane; profiles more as a strike pitch at the next level. Minimal changeup usage in game, did throw it in warmups at 75-76 mph with tumble, hand shows early prior to pronation. Continues to solidify his status as a high-follow prospect at the next level.
Behrens sat 90-92 mph with little effort, with a fastball that spins at 2,223 rpm on average featuring hard arm-side action that projects to pummel the inner half of the right-handed strike zone. Behrens’ excellent feel and control over his offspeed, a curve-changeup combo, is his best attribute. His tight breaking ball bites through the zone with spin rates measured at 2,323 rpm on average, and his changeup is equally impressive, 77-80 mph, and it averaged the most horizontal movement of the day (19.1 inches). Ranked inside Illinois’ top-25, Behrens looks like he’ll receive consideration for a move up the board.

RHP Adam Behrens (Warren Township) continues to show an uptick in stuff after coming off a strong 2021 campaign, including a trip to the PBR Future Games. Behrens shows feel for an above-average three-pitch mix, including a fastball that sat 88-90 mph, touched 91, a curveball that averaged 2,300-plus rpm, and a changeup that averaged over 15 inches of horizontal movement. He's a strong-bodied, competitive strike-thrower whose velocity continues to rise.
Behrens has long been known as one of the more competitive, strike-throwing arms in his class and he did just that in this outing, throwing 72% of pitches for strikes. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound PBR Future Gamer attacked hitters with an 83-86 mph fastball, reaching back for an 87 mph high a few times early on. He flipped in a handful of 69-71 mph breaking balls with depth as well, landing them beneath the zone when he was ahead in the count. Behrens is currently ranked inside the Illinois top-25 for his class and is amongst the top uncommitted arms in the state.

On Thursday, Behrens challenged hitters throughout with a lively fastball that topped at 81 mph and sat mostly 77-80 mph in the early going. Behrens struck out 10 in 5.1 innings pitched against Brew State.
