Recent Parkland College commit, MIF Nik Nelson (DeKalb), showed well during the gameplay portion of the State Games. Nelson is a high-motor middle-infielder that had a knack for putting together quality at-bats during the event. The left-handed hitter has a simple, repeatable swing that uses the whole field. Defensively, he showed range and a trust in his hands that should allow him to stick on the dirt at the next level.

Nelson showed quality profile throughout the weekend with a pretty left-handed swing coming from a compact 5-foot-6, 141-pound frame. At the plate, Nelson presented a line drive approach, using an aggressive toe tap to get into a position to hit. Defensively, the shortstop showed athletic actions and movements. Overall, an intriguing profile is Nelson’s game.
