Southwestern Illinois JC commit, currently ranked No. 139 in the state. 5-foot-11, 165-pound athletic frame. The left-handed hitter displayed quality bat-to-ball abilities from a wide stance, long stride, and a compact swing. Bailey finished the day going 2-for-3 with a double and two runs batted, one of which came from a sac fly into left field. He displayed speed that allowed him to pick up a stolen base and translated into the field where he was able to cover ground in left.
Bailey is coming off a Third-Team All-State selection after he hit .421 with five doubles, two triples, nine home runs, 47 RBIs, 36 runs scored, 27 walks and a .757 slugging percentage. He will likely be a middle of the order bat for a strong Mahomet-Seymour squad.
Recent Southwestern Illinois JC commit, OF Gavin Bailey (Mahomet-Seymour) is a prospect that burst onto our scene this past winter, and continued to have an impressive high school season. He’s a talented left-handed bat that produced a max exit velocity of 94 mph (87 mph avg.) during his round of batting practice, including an average batted distance of 300 feet, the fifth highest of the entire event. During gameplay, Bailey continued to show well, tallying two hits in four at-bats. A follow in the incoming-senior class.

Positional Profile: OF/2B
Body: 5-11, 165-pounds.
Hit: LHH. Tall setup, high leg lift, short stride. Loose, quick hands, direct path with slight uphill tendencies, has easy power to the middle/pull-side. 61.6 mph bat speed with 21 G’s of rotational acceleration. Finished gameplay 2-for-5 with two RBIs, two runs scored and two stolen bases.
Power: 94 max exit velocity, averaged 87 mph. 327’ max distance.
Arm: RH. OF - 81 mph. 3/4 slot, longer arc, uphill.
Defense: One-hand gather out front, short shuffle into throw, works through throw.

Bailey showed a pretty left-handed swing and an ability to find the barrel this past weekend. The outfielder stays athletic at the plate and uses a leg kick as a timing mechanism, showing line-drive tendencies throughout the weekend. An athletic 6-foot-1, 175 pounds, there is plenty of room for added strength and physical maturing. An uncommitted name to know in Illinois' Class of 2025.
Uncommitted. Bailey had an impressive week at the plate going 10-for-19 with three home runs, one double, 13 RBIs, seven runs scored and four stolen bases. His most impressive game of the week came in their 4-3 win over Effingham. He hit a grandslam in the top of the seventh, and he finished the day 2-for-3 with a grandslam, four RBIs, one run scored and a walk. In their 9-0 win over Charleston, Bailey went 2-for-3 with a home run, four RBIs, two runs scored and a walk, and he added another home run in their 11-1 win over Charleston, finishing the game 1-for-3 with a home run, four RBIs, two runs scored and a walk. Bailey is hitting .476 on the season.
OF Gavin Bailey (Mahomet-Seymour) is an upside left-handed bat that caught our eye while making his showcase debut. Bailey has a well-proportioned, 6-foot-1, 170-pound build with more physicality coming. He took athletic, fast swings throughout while staying on the barrel and using the whole field. His 73 mph average bat speed tied for sixth-best of the event. Ran a 7.26 laser-timed 60.

Body: 6-1, 170-pounds. Trim, athletic frame with room to fill out.
Hit: LHH. Balanced setup, fluid load. Creates above-average bat speed, athletic hands, controlled intent, on the barrel throughout and used the whole field. 73 mph bat speed with 20 G’s of rotational acceleration.
Power: 92 max exit velocity, averaged 84 mph. 305’ max distance.
Arm: RH. OF - 81 mph. 3/4 release, clean arm circle.
Defense: Deliberate footwork, one-hand gather, moves athletically into crowhop.
