Currently ranked No. 178 in the state’s 2027 class. 6-foot, 178-pound frame with present strength throughout. Known for his work on the mound, Shanahan showed well offensively in this look. Batted fifth in the lineup and played third base, working on the barrel with a quick bat and feel to hit. He laced two line-drive singles up the middle and scored the only run for the Tigers. An uncommitted name for schools to follow.
RHP Michael Bud Shanahan (Crystal Lake Central, 2027) is another rising junior coming off the event. The 6-foot, 177-pound, athletically-built right-hander has seen his stuff tick up in a big way since last summer’s Illinois State Games where he touched low-80s with his fastball. Bud Shanahan averaged 85.7 mph, T87.3 mph with his fastball playing relatively easy out of the hand with a peak of 19.4 IVB and 13.1 inches of HM. Working out of a stretch-only delivery he repeated well throughout while flashing a mid-70s slider with late action at times and a fading changeup at 76-77 mph. One to watch this coming spring and beyond.
Positional Profile: RHP/3B
Body: 6-0, 172-pounds. Athletic build with some present strength throughout. Delivery: Stretch-only, linear delivery, repeats.
Arm Action: RH. Long draw, clean and high 3/4 to over-the-top slot.
FB: T87, 85-87 mph. Flashed run to the arm side. T2113, 1981 average rpm.
SL: 74-76 mph. 11/5 shape, occasional depth. Sharp, late breaking at times. T2197, 2165 average rpm.
CH: 76-77 mph. Plays in the zone, late fade. T1186, 1041 average rpm.
Positional Profile: RHP/3B
Body: 5-11, 172-pounds. Trim, athletic build with some fill coming soon.
Delivery: Stretch-only, quick, medium leg kick into a drop/drive lower half.
Arm Action: RH. Quick, short arm action.
FB: T83, 78-81 mph. Easy, firm with cutting tendency. T1861, 1688 average rpm.
SL: 68-72 mph. Gyro shape with slight sweep. T2063, 1923 average rpm.
Stands in at a lean 5-foot-11, 170-pound frame. Works straight down the mound and offered a lively pitch mix. Shanahan offered a fastball in the 78-81 mph range that jumps out of the hand, topping out at 82. He also offered a pair of secondaries with a 68-71 mph slider with late 10/4 bite, as well as a mid-70s changeup with heavy fade.
RHP Michael Bud Shanahan (Crystal Lake Central, 2027) is a name that popped for our staff, and could provide immediate impact on the mound for the defending 3A State Champs this spring. He stands in at a high-waisted and athletic 5-foot-10, 162-pounds, and was moving down the mound really well. His fastball was clean out of the hand at 80-83 mph (T84) with slight sinking action (avg. 12.2” IVB). His slider was perhaps his best pitch on this day; sitting 71-74 mph, thrown with intent, showing lateral action, and was around the zone (50% strikes). His changeup also flashed out-pitch potential at 76-78 mph, thrown with intent, while playing with sink to round out his arsenal.
Positional Profile: RHP/3B Body: 5-11, 167-pounds. Strong shoulders with athleticism, projectable. Delivery: Short, uptempo delivery, medium leg kick into balance point, drop/drive lower-half. Arm Action: RH. Long draw out of the glove, quick action, 3/4 slot. FB: T84, 81-83 mph. Clean out of the hand with some life, has slight sink. T1968, 1891 average rpm. SL: 71-74 mph. Vertical action, throws with intent, lands to the arm-side, out-pitch. T2155, 2140 average rpm. CH: 77-78 mph. Thrown with intent, fading action, flashes out-pitch potential. T1669, 1575 average rpm.
