One of the most consistent in-game producers in the region, INF/OF Porter McCarthy (Benton, MO, 2028) continues to trend upward with steady gains across the board and plenty of projection left in his frame. The soon-to-be sophomore showed a mature approach in BP, working line drives from the middle of the field to his pull side with a peak exit velocity of 87.8 mph—a number that plays up in-game and should climb as he adds strength. A versatile defender, McCarthy moves well in the outfield with a 6.83 60 and an 81 mph arm, while also showing athletic actions and an 82 mph infield velocity, giving him true two-position value moving forward.
Positional Profile: SS/2B
Body: 5-9, 147-pounds. Lean wiry frame with room for added strength.
Hit: LHH. Tall slightly open setup with a balanced base, weight starting on the back side, and soft movement in hands. Uses a short leg lift trigger working back to even and gaining some ground forward. Compact flat path through the zone, mostly barrels. 62 mph bat speed with 13 G's of rotational acceleration.
Power: 88 max exit velocity, averaged 82.6 mph. 301' max distance.
Arm: RH. INF-82 mph. OF-81 mph. Moderate stroke from a 3/4 slot.
Defense: Confident athletic actions defensively.
ATH: 6.83 runner in the 60. 1.58 and 3.77 in the 10 and 30 yard splits. 27.60 max vertical.
2023 Junior Future Games participant INF Porter McCarthy (Benton, 2028) put together another strong performance in this look. At the plate, McCarthy was consistently on the barrel, using a clean left-handed swing to deliver line drives from gap to gap. The freshman showcased clean, reliable actions on the infield, reaching 78 mph across the diamond on his firmest throw. At 5-foot-9, 135-pounds, McCarthy also ran a 6.96 60 which was a top-3 time on the day.
