The Top Thirty Players:
The Orioles lead with two of the top ten overall, both from their 2019 draft class, while the Guardians are the only team with three in the top thirty. Twelve teams do not have a single player in the top thirty.
Team Signing Bonuses:
The Tigers, Royals and Orioles had the top picks and paid the most in signing bonuses.
Team WAR Totals:
The top three teams in Total WAR are also the top three teams in Total Bonuses paid.
Efficiency:
Return on Investment. The nature of the beast is largely failure, but getting a strong return on one’s investment does have importance. Keep in mind that not all drafts are created equal – money matters and where a club picks in each round does as well. Below we rank clubs on the WAR produced per dollar spent on the 2018-2021 drafts combined.
Surprisingly as the top team, but not surprising as an efficient entity, the Houston Astros top the charts. The ‘Stros rank dead last in signing bonuses paid, but a 12th place finish in total WAR has currently vaulted them to the top of our draft & develop efficiency rankings.
