Jupiter: Rode's Day 4 Notebook

By Nathan Rode

JUPITER, FL—With the playoff rounds starting Sunday afternoon at the World Wood Bat Championship, there was not shortage of intense action. It also marked the last day for me and with a very early wakeup call staring me in the face, we’ll get straight to today’s highlights…

+ Once again, my day started with an arm challenging hitters as the sun was still coming over the horizon. RHP Bo Weiss (Regis Jesuit HS, CO) toed the rubber for the Mountain West Slammers against the San Diego Padres Scout Team. Weiss has wide shoulders and a projectable frame at 6-foot-3, 180 pounds. He pitched three innings, allowing an unearned run on a hit and struck out five while walking none. The North Carolina recruit sat 88-91 mph with his fastball, touching 92. It featured arm-side life at times. His curveball was mostly soft, sitting in the low 70s, but it flashed sharpness and good 11/5 shape at 73. Weiss’ best secondary pitch on the day was his changeup, which he showed good feel for. It featured arm-side run and looked like a fastball out of his hand, sitting at 80-81. He threw 45 pitches, 32 for strikes.
