PBR IL Scout Day - Parkland JC: Statistical Analysis
September 7, 2021
The Prep Baseball Report Parkland JC Scout Day took place on Wednesday, September 1. The event was held at Parkland Junior College in Champaign, IL. Over 20 Parkland prospects showcased their talents in front of the PBR scouting staff, as well as MLB Scouts.
Our staff will continue to roll content from this event throughout the week, such as a takeaways story and more technology based stories with the help of our partners at TrackMan and Blast Motion.
For now, however, read below to check out the statistical leaders from this event.
+ OF Jaron Ward (Dinwiddie, 2021; Virginia) is a high-end 6-foot-2, 185-pound athlete that ran the fastest 60-yard dash of the day, clocking a 6.59 time on our lasers. He showed off impressive bat strength in BP, barreling his best ball up at 100 mph. Ward capped his workout off by popping an 87 mph high from the outfield, too.
+ INF Keegan Taylor (Guerin Catholic, 2020; IN) was last seen at a PBR event in 2019 and he graduated from high school as a top-20 player inside the Indiana's 2020 state rankings. The 5-foot-10, 200 pound right-handed hitting infielder's hardest hit ball of the day left his barrel at 103 mph and he also paced the infield group in max throwing velocity, topping at 87 mph across the diamond.
+ Outfielder’s Cole Evans (Grand Island, 2019) and Jose Lara (Pleasant Valley, 2020) were both seen last year at our 2020 Parkland Scout Day event, showing well again this time around. Evans ran the team’s third best 60-yard dash with a 6.76 and later had a max exit velocity of 97 mph. From the outfield, Evans recorded the group's top velocity with a 97 mph throw to the plate. Lara started his day with a 7.01 60-yard dash and later recorded a max exit velocity of 102 mph in BP. Lara threw 94 mph from the outfield, improving from last year’s scout day and finishing second overall.
+ Joining the Cobras from Wisconsin and transferring into Parkland JC this season from Winona State, RHP Mitch Mueller (Brookfield Central, 2021) popped as a big winner from this event. The 6-foot-4, 220-pound right-hander pumped his best bullet in at 93 mph, sitting at 91-92 mph throughout with 19+ inches of Induced Vertical Break (IVB) on average.
+ RHP Alex Pipes (Francis Howell, 2021; MO) was another arm that showed well throughout his 'pen. The lanky 6-foot-1, 175-pound right-hander showcased four pitchers, including an impressive spin profile throughout his arsenal. Pipes ran his fastball up to 92 mph, sitting at 89-91 mph in his 'pen, and spun it up to a 2,400+ RPM max. Both of Pipes' breaking pitches, a slider and cutter, averaged 2,600+ RPM as well, while his low-spin changeup averaged nearly 17 inches of horizontal movement. Pipes bring a data friendly all-around profile to the table with plenty of further optimization left in the tank.
