The athletic righthander out of Royal has been on a steady upward climb since last spring when he popped as a Soph. then dominated a two-inning outing at the 2024 Prep Baseball Future Games as part of Team California. This was my second live look at Dunwoody since Georgia with a strong two inning look during winter ball where he hit 93 multiple times, but this six inning outing topped even that. An easy operation to his delivery with a loose, fast arm that hides the ball well until release, getting consistently late swings, uncomfortable swings, and whiff/chase from hitters. Dunwoody pounded the strike zone consistently with his three pitch offering that featured a lively FB at 88-92 MPH which he can ride at the top of the zone or get running life down in the zone while showing the feel to miss bats of get soft contact (only one well struck FB all game came in 6th inning). He used a pair of intriguing breaking balls in a sharp 80-83 MPH SLD which has a true SLD shape with sharp glove side bite that gets whiff from RHH. Then mixed in a more vertically breaking CB at 76-78 which induced whiff from RHH. Dunwoody profiles as a long term starter with the athleticism in his delivery/arm action, feel to throw strikes, solid present three pitch mix (working on a CHG/SPLT as next pitch) and feel to turn it up a notch in pressure situations. In the 5th/6th innings of a one run baseball game Dunwoody worked around an early baserunner to strike out the side in each inning ticking his velocity back up and racking up swing/miss from throughout the oppositions lineup. The Arizona bound righthander will be at the West ProCase in June to showcase his high level stuff against some of the best talent around the Western Region.
