Mason Zobel is a perfect example of why velocity doesn’t always need to be a priority when stepping on the mound. Efficiency and filling up the zone with strikes is all you really need sometimes. The last time I had seen Zobel he was hitting home runs over the LF field fence at Del Oro High School, now he’s on the mound for the first look of the ‘25 season. Zobel was very efficient when going through the Thunder hitters, the junior righty went five innings, surrendering five hits and three earned runs. He only walked one batter and struck out six, 50-76 strikes was by far his most impressive stat on the day. There is a lot more in the tank with Zobel whether it's on the mound or when he’s hitting, Zobel is a really strong kid so I can see him developing into a two way that will be a game changer. The velocity will come on the mound over time, Zobel has got big legs so I think with the added muscle he will definitely throw harder. Lots of strikes were thrown from Zobel and his performance on the mound gave West Park their best shot to win that game. Zobel added a 1-4 day at the plate with an RBI to add to the nine runs.

Zobel probably had some of the best swings on the day, considering the game only went five innings and players didn't get to get their last at bats. Physically, the body stands out from a lot of the team, and Zobel hits in the middle of the lineup. The swing is short and compact, with the ability to really stay in the middle of the field. Both of the balls he hit were mashed, the first ball Zobel took over the LCF wall for a home run. The second ball he touched was caught by the CF to the deepest part of the park. I recently saw Zobel at a Sacramento ID and his hitting numbers there were well above average.
