Reeves made noise in the middle of the Vista Murrieta lineup, launching his second HR of the spring with a 2-run shot to LCF in the 2nd giving the Broncos their 3rd HR of the inning. Even on a swing where he didn’t fully barrel it (got slightly under it), the strength and raw power in his frame showed up in a big way, as the ball cleared the fence by 15+ feet. Reeves operates from a simple, athletic setup with a controlled leg kick and quick hands. There’s natural lift in the swing, and the ball jumps off the bat when he gets extended. That power has translated into steady production this spring where he's now hitting .296 (16-54) with a double, triple, 2 HRs, 14 RBIs, and 15 runs scored. A natural catcher, Reeves played 1B today and looked very comfortable over there with the ability to field the position at a high level with present athleticism. Still just a junior, Reeves’ game has clear impact traits. With strength already showing up in-game and a frame that is filled out with good proportions, he looks every bit the part as one of the many big time D-1 commits that the deep Broncos roster has to offer.
Physical: 5-10, 165 pounds; Athletic, proportional build. 7.50 runner in the 60.
Offensively: RHH. Even setup, with feet shoulder width apart; flat bat to start. Short take back with the hands that load the barrel into a good early connection position. Up and down stride that starts slow and early for timing. Stays behind the ball while showing an average effort from the legs. Showed a slight lift to the ball with a two handed finish. More flyballs than line drives and groundballs with a peak exit velocity of 92 MPH via Trackman. Easy bat speed. Natural rhythm with hands. Slight coil. Connected throughout. Good extension. Advanced hitter.
Defensively: 2.04-2.18 pop times. C - 72 MPH. Good throwdown actions. Quick exchange and arm works short and quick to release. Footwork is quick. Gains good ground and maintains good direction towards 2nd. Above average arm strength. 3/5 accurate throws. Present receiving ability. Quiet body with firm glove.
