From the moment I first saw Oliver take ground balls over the 2024 MLK holiday weekend, I’ve been very high on him and he just continues to trend upward for me. All the reports coming in on him from different baseball people that I know spoke to the improvements that he has made offensively to go with an impact defensive profile at shortstop were very much spot on. With a more controlled load/operation in the box Oliver‘s tracking pitches better and making very strong swing decisions. His bat speed and turn of the lower half have both ticked up which allowed him to comfortably recognize and handle solid present velocity. His bat to ball is consistent and he’s showing a stronger feel for being on the barrel with his contact. Oliver displayed adjustability to cover vertically and horizontally across the strike zone while recognizing spin and being able to stay on spin with his swing. Defensively, his actions are smooth and athletic with lateral/downhill comfort. He can play one handed or two handed with ease, and the arm has ticked up with its strength showing improved carry on his throws while still demonstrating high-level accuracy. The UC Irvine commit is trending in the right direction as he looks to close out his JR. Year of high school strong before heading into his SR. HS Draft year.

2025 SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA MLK WEEKEND SCOUT NOTEBOOK: Oliver physically stood out at shortstop and in the box with noticeable strength in upper and lower body with athleticism. Showed good actions in the dirt with executed footwork and glove work. Has offensive projection as a physical infielder and could produce in game power production as he continues to develop at Irvine. Has strong bat control and body control in swing with balance as the senior ripped a shot to the left center field gap for a single. The Irvine commit has a chance for a strong year with a physically talented Agoura squad.

Braden Oliver, Agoura High (CA), 2026
Positional Profile: SS/2B Projects to stick at SS defensively with actions/arm strength to be impactful while flashing intriguing offensive upside.
Body: 6-2, 175-pounds. Projectable athletic frame with wiry present strength to it that projects increased physicality.
Hit: RHH. Wider set up with knees wider than shoulders and small bend in them with a vertical upper body. Hands are set slightly above shoulder height with hands closer to his head and a low back elbow while barrel is tipped behind his head angled towards 3B coaches box. Shifts weight into his back hip to start load with upper body hinging over to create better posture and a small leg kick on the front side to get to launch position while hands drop slightly into the slot position. Sinks into rear leg during the turn with good sequence working his hips through first and shoulder driving through contact. Hand path is direct with bat showing leverage through the zone and extension to his finish. Projects middle to pull hard LD contact.
Power: 92 max exit velocity, averaged 76.6 mph. 144' max distance. Flatter path is geared to get the barrel to contact with leverage through the zone that keeps the ball more on a LD/ground ball plane which will give him line to line doubles power, but present top end EV with room to add strength projects future pull side HR and pull side gap HR potential.
Arm: RH. INF-85 mph. Elbow leads the hand out of glove in the transfer with quick arm speed and comfort throwing from multiple angles that allows him to project to stick at SS with present arm strength and accuracy to his throws.
Defense: Plays with good rhythm and athletic actions with getting his hips low and glove in proper position with quickness to his transfer. Projects impact defensive potential at a premium spot.
ATH: 7.02 runner in the 60. 1.57 and 3.85 in the 10 and 30 yard splits. Drives off the line with ability to get to top speed with quickness while showing body control and present speed. 26.20 max vertical.
